AAC All Day: Implementing AAC Beyond Speech Therapy

AAC is communication and communication happens ALL DAY! Yet, not everyone feels equipped to support AAC communication. Join us for a session that helps therapists identify how to incorporate AAC beyond speech therapy sessions, to support communication with OT/PT, at home and in the community. Through lecture, discussions, and examples, participants will learn evidence-based strategies for modeling, prompting, and engaging AAC users in a variety of activities as well as how to collaborate with other professionals and family members to incorporate AAC throughout an AAC user’s day. Participants will have the opportunity to develop activities and ideas through group discussion and using job aides provided. Skills learned will enable participants to make best practice decisions for AAC implementation and support.

Following this course, participants will be able to: 

1. Describe “modeling” related to AAC
2. Describe the AAC prompting hierarchy
3. List 3 activities that they can incorporate AAC into during a typical therapy session
4. Identify 2 strategies for collaboration with other professionals and caregivers to incorporate AAC throughout an AAC user’s day.

This course meets the requirement for Professional Development hours towards your ASHA renewal since it is approved by TSHA! You can count these hours towards ASHA renewal when you submit your Compliance Form.
