Overview

Strong caregiver-provider relationships are at the heart of effective early intervention services. This interactive course explores practical strategies for building trust, fostering collaboration, and engaging caregivers as active partners in their child’s development. Drawing from real-world questions, challenges, and case examples, participants will examine approaches to caregiver coaching, relationship-building, and navigating difficult conversations with confidence and empathy. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to strengthen caregiver partnerships, support family-centered practice, and promote meaningful outcomes for children and families.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

Identify at least 3 key principles of relationship-centered and family-centered practice that support effective caregiver engagement in early intervention.
Utilize at least 3 caregiver coaching and collaborative communication strategies to promote caregiver participation and carryover within daily routines.
Analyze common challenges that arise in caregiver-provider relationships and select at least 2 appropriate approaches to address concerns, resistance, or differing perspectives.
Describe at least 3 strategies for navigating difficult conversations with caregivers while maintaining trust, empathy, and a focus on shared goals for the child and family.

Jennifer Lawson

Jennifer has been an Occupational Therapist since 1996, with a Master's degree from the University of Indianapolis, and has focused on pediatric practice since 1999.

Jennifer Lawson is Director of Educational Instruction & Design for Knowledge Is Now, pediatric-focused continuing education organization. She is a highly accomplished occupational therapist with over 25 years of specialized experience in pediatric practice across school and home health settings. Throughout her career, she has designed and directed innovative programs, mentored and developed therapists and leaders, and created a wealth of practical resources that continue to shape the field. A seasoned educator, Jennifer has designed and delivered hundreds of hours of continuing education, equipping pediatric professionals with knowledge and tools that directly elevate the quality of care.

Jennifer is widely recognized for her expertise in core pediatric therapy foundations, including establishing medical necessity through assessment and dosage determination, writing meaningful and functional goals, and fostering caregiver collaboration and empowerment. Beyond her clinical and educational contributions, Jennifer has a deep and enduring passion for personal and relational growth, development, and well-being. She extends this passion by offering impactful learning experiences that inspire both professional excellence and personal fulfillment.

Outside of pediatric healthcare-related interests, Jennifer has been teaching yoga since 2006, and enjoys hiking, cooking, and time with her pup, Remy.
