Throughout this session, the attendee will learn the necessary components to create and manage an AAC program that is effective and organized. Attendees will be given structure for how to begin with obtaining buy in from their administrators and SLP team in addition to tangible first steps for program development. Considerations for AAC program policies and procedures will be described as well in regards to referral, evaluation, trial, therapy, and program organization. Additionally, attendees will be given structure for how to maintain effective program practices with the speech team, educator, and parent support.

Following this course participants will be able to:

  1. Describe 3 different topics to discuss with administrators and SLP team members when establishing an AAC program.
  2. Describe SLP responsibilities and procedures for AAC referrals, evaluations, trial periods, device placement, and therapy.
  3. Describe 4 different organizational components to document and track for AAC program maintenance.
  4. Describe 3 different strategies for on-going support for AAC Stakeholders.

This course meets the requirement for Professional Development hours towards your ASHA renewal since it is approved by TSHA! You can count these hours towards ASHA renewal when you submit your Compliance Form.

Instructor

Randi Brown is a speech language pathologist and AAC specialist residing in Fort Worth, TX. She graduated from the Missouri State University SLP undergraduate and graduate programs. Randi works at Azle ISD in Azle, TX and also owns her own AAC consulting business, Randi Brown SLP Resources. She provides professional development, consultations, and virtual workshops to SLPs and parents. Randi is especially passionate about serving children with disabilities and providing support to families of children with disabilities. In her free time she enjoys going on local adventures with her kids or watching The Office with her husband.
