For Parents and Caregivers – Unlocking Communication: AAC Essentials – How Do I Get My Child to Use Their AAC System?

Ashlyn is a cheerleader at heart and a special educator and occupational therapist by training. She holds a Master of Education from Texas Woman’s University and a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch. With more than a decade in education, over eleven years of experience as an occupational therapist in both home health and school settings, Ashlyn has dedicated her career to supporting access, communication, and independence for individuals of all abilities across classroom, home, and community environments. Most recently Ashlyn has worked as an AAC specialist for a pediatric home health company, bringing her love for teaching and supporting access to a role of mentorship and education for therapists in the effective use of augmentative and alternative communication.

Throughout her career, Ashlyn has provided professional development on AAC, literacy, accessibility, and learning both in person and virtually, always bringing her signature enthusiasm and encouragement to every audience she supports. Currently, Ashlyn is the Director of Strategy and Access for Knowledge is Now, where she continues to champion equitable access to learning and communication.
