First recognized in the 1970s, burnout has become a growing concern, especially in passion-driven fields like healthcare and human services, where compassion fatigue and chronic stress are common. Burnout doesn’t just affect individuals; it impacts productivity, decision-making, staff retention, and an organization’s ability to fulfill its mission.
This interactive session explores the roots and realities of burnout, including what it looks like, how it affects us, and what we can do about it. Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of burnout, develop personal strategies to build emotional intelligence and resilience, as well as best practices for preventing burnout at the organizational and societal levels.
This session will be an engaging experience filled with reflection, discussion, connection, and practical tools. You’ll leave with an individualized, actionable plan to move forward with clarity, strength, and purpose.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the difference between ‘stress’ and ‘stressors’.
- Define the terms ‘emotional intelligence’ and ‘interoception’ and discuss how they are related to stress and burnout.
- Describe 3 personal strategies for mitigating burnout and building resilience.
- Discuss at least one organizational or team-based strategy to share with colleagues and leadership to help prevent burnout and promote a culture of wellbeing.
This course meets the requirement for Professional Development hours towards your ASHA renewal since it is approved by TSHA! You can count these hours towards ASHA renewal when you submit your Compliance Form.
Important for Texas OT practitioners: Although this course supports personal and /or professional growth and workplace effectiveness, the Texas OT Board does not currently recognize this topic area as eligible for continuing education credit for OT licensure renewal. Therefore, TOTA approval is not available for this course.
