This specialized course is designed for speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists seeking to deepen their expertise in feeding and swallowing intervention for medically complex pediatric populations. Using a case-based format, the course explores how developmental feeding milestones intersect with complex medical presentations, including prematurity, genetic syndromes, cardiac conditions, neurological disorders, and airway/GI involvement.

Participants will examine real-world pediatric case studies to apply clinical reasoning and evidence-based strategies. A strong emphasis will be placed on understanding and referencing feeding developmental norms as a framework for assessment, treatment planning, and goal setting.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

Identify feeding developmental milestones and their clinical relevance.
Recognize how specific medical diagnoses alter feeding trajectories.
Analyze complex feeding cases using developmental norms as a foundation

Instructor

Chessa Jones

Chessa earned her Master’s degree in Communication Disorders at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in May of 2008. She has worked at THERAPY 2000 since July 2008. During that time, she has served in many different roles. Currently, she is the Feeding Program Director. She also has experience in outpatient, private practice, and consultation on a cleft palate team. Her expertise and passion is working with patients that have dysphagia and pediatric feeding disorders.
