Learn more than 20 Social Thinking strategies and three core treatment frameworks to guide students, clients, and patients to better attend, interpret, problem solve, and respond to social information. Help individuals 1) observe and respond to situations based on the context and determine the “expected” behaviors of each situation, 2) learn core Social Thinking Vocabulary and concepts to encourage social-communicative competence, and 3) discover strategies for teaching self-regulation, executive functioning, emotional understanding, and theory of mind/perspective taking. Work in teams to develop lesson plans to implement new strategies in the home, clinic, or classroom the very next day.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe why the context or situation is essential for figuring out social expectations and related social skills.
  2. Define at least five Social Thinking Vocabulary concepts.
  3. Describe how Social Thinking Vocabulary concepts facilitate generalization across home and school settings.
  4. List and describe two strategies for teaching self regulation and/ or the social emotional chain reaction.

This training will have two 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch break.

This course meets the requirement for Professional Development hours towards your ASHA renewal since it is approved by TSHA! You can count these hours towards ASHA renewal when you submit your Compliance Form.

Instructor

Renee Attaway Storer is the founder and director of the Center for Social Learning in Houston, Texas, a private practice that offers social cognitive therapy for children and adults.. She has been a member of the Social Thinking Training and Speaking Collaborative since 2012. Since 2004, Renee has been attending Social Thinking conferences and trainings and using the methodology in her therapy sessions. Renee also founded and directs an overnight camp focused on social learning, Camp Social. Prior to beginning her practice, she worked in an adult transition program, directed a social cognitive program at The Parish School and taught preschool for neurodiverse children.
