Pediatric and Infant FEES: Integrating Updates in the Literature Into Clinical Practice

This intermediate-level course will review recent literature on pediatric and infant FEES. It will cover protocols and procedures for pediatric and infant FEES and how to apply them in clinical practice. The course will also review recommendations for creating and implementing a multidisciplinary infant and pediatric FEES program. A case study will be included to illustrate these concepts.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe at least two anatomical and physiologic abnormalities viewed endoscopically that contribute to pediatric dysphagia.
2. Distinguish at least two clinical indications for pediatric VFSS and FEES.
3. Identify the appropriate sequence for infant/pediatric bottle feeding and breastfeeding during FEES.
4. Identify two abnormal swallowing parameters observed during infant/pediatric FEES.
5. Identify at least three key components necessary to implement a multidisciplinary infant and pediatric FEES program.
