Fluency therapy is very individualized and therapy sessions can often be challenging for SLPs. This presentation will address a variety of treatment approaches for preschoolers, school aged children and adolescents for stuttering. It will specifically target addressing the feelings and attitudes of children who stutter and how to effectively counsel the client and their caregivers throughout therapy.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

1. State a variety of treatment strategies they can use to target a child’s feelings and attitudes about stuttering.
2. List at least 2 strategies they can use to target effective communication with children who stutter.
3. Write examples of treatment goals for children with fluency disorders and describe how to measure progress on the child’s goals.

This course meets the requirement for Professional Development hours towards your ASHA renewal since it is approved by TSHA! You can count these hours towards ASHA renewal when you submit your Compliance Form.

Instructor

Robyn Martin

Robyn Martin is the Director of SLP Clinical Instruction for the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences MS-SLP program, Dallas, Texas. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in speech-language pathology from Texas Christian University. Robyn has practiced as a speech-language pathologist in public schools, the hospital setting, a pediatric outpatient clinic and in the university setting where she supervised graduate students in clinical practicum and taught fluency disorders and clinical graduate courses. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Stuttering, Cluttering and Fluency.
Robyn is currently the Past President for the Texas Speech-Language Hearing Association and is a past Vice-President of Educational and Scientific Affairs, past chair of the Leadership Academy and was a member of the Texas Speech-Language Foundation board. She also served on ASHA's Committee on Nominations and ASHA's Committee on Leadership Cultivation.
