PediPod: AAC Growth Collective

This PediPod has ended! Thank you for being a part of our learning community!

A tiered cohort for building confident AAC clinicians

Live sessions every Wednesday at 4:00pm-5:00pm CST for 8 weeks.
16 hours (1.6 CEUs) for SLPs.
Additional pediatric professionals are welcome and will receive a course certificate upon completion.

Tier One: Foundations and Awareness

If you have specific questions, email the instructor at [email protected]

Tier One of the AAC Cohort is an 8-week foundational experience designed to build clarity, confidence, and clinical reasoning around AAC. This tier focuses on developing a shared understanding of what AAC is, who it is for, and how to begin using it intentionally in therapy.

Participants will explore the full AAC continuum, from unaided communication to high-tech systems, with an emphasis on recognizing potential AAC communicators and understanding differences across populations, including medically complex and autistic individuals. Through guided instruction and applied examples, therapists will begin developing feature matching skills, learn how AAC assessment differs from funding evaluations, and gain a working knowledge of funding basics.

This tier also introduces evidence-based implementation strategies, including modeling, expanding beyond requesting, prompt hierarchies, and engagement techniques. By the end of Tier One, participants will understand what effective AAC-supported therapy looks like and feel prepared to take meaningful first steps in AAC assessment and intervention.

This cohort is not passive learning. It is active, guided growth. Over 8 weeks you will not only learn about AAC, you will practice thinking like an AAC specialist. This cohort is a clinical deep dive where research meets real practice. With expert guided article review, case discussions, weekly live sessions, and collaborative application activities, you will build the reasoning, tools, and confidence to elevate the way you support pediatric communicators.

Who should attend this PediPod?

This tier is designed for therapists who are:

  • New to AAC or unsure where to begin
  • Supporting clients with AAC systems and want more confidence in assessment, feature matching, selection, and implementation
  • Seeking a stronger evidence-based foundation before moving into advanced AAC decision making
  • Suspecting AAC may be appropriate for clients but want clearer reasoning and next steps
  • Wanting to feel more confident advocating for AAC with families, teams, and other providers
  • Interested in growing their ability to support or mentor others in AAC practice

  • Dispel common AAC myths using current research and evidence-based reasoning
  • Demonstrate introductory feature matching skills when exploring AAC systems and software
  • Utilize introductory AAC assessment tools and goal-writing strategies
