Overview
The pediatric assessment process can be lengthy and time consuming. In most settings, there is limited time to complete an assessment and to document in a way that justifies the recommended services and meets the needs and expectations of the health plan. It can be challenging to balance the need for standardized testing with the need for gathering important child/family specific information in order to create a meaningful plan of care. This course focuses on best practices related to assessment, dosage, goal writing, caregiver collaboration, intervention, and visit note documentation through the unique lens of OT and PT, addressing common trouble spots. Multiple opportunities for application and practice are included.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe at least 3 ways to gather information from caregivers during the assessment process to support development of child/family-centered goals
- Discuss at least 2 components of the assessment process, outside of standardized testing.
- Describe medical necessity as it relates to standardized test results.
- Create at least 2 meaningful, measurable, child/family focused goals based on case studies in preparation for application to practice.
