This course builds essential awareness of workplace violence in healthcare while equipping participants with the knowledge and tools needed to promote safety across practice settings. Participants will review current national and state regulations related to workplace violence prevention and learn how to translate these requirements into effective training and organizational safety plans.

A concise overview of the literature will be provided, examining the prevalence of workplace violence, common risk factors, and the physical and psychological impact on healthcare providers. Emphasis is placed on practical application, including prevention planning, administrative responsibilities, professional boundaries, de-escalation techniques, and strategies to enhance situational awareness and safety preparedness.

Special consideration is given to the unique challenges of home health care, where clinicians often work independently in unpredictable environments. Participants will leave better prepared to recognize risk, respond effectively, and contribute to safer care environments for both providers and patients.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define workplace violence and provide at least 3 examples of workplace violence.
  2. Identify at least 3 risk factors that could cause or lead to workplace violence.
  3. Identify at least 3 strategies or resources to prevent and/or de-escalate workplace violence.
