Supporting families of children with chronic or progressive conditions creates many opportunities for conversations that may be difficult for both therapists and caregivers. However, there are strategies that can help the conversation continue so there is a chance for finding a common understanding. This course will provide dialogue tools we can use to support families along the continuum of care, including during times where a frequency decrease or transition to the community is recommended.
Participants will learn how to recognize early signs of a conversation that may be at risk, and a variety of strategies to keep the dialogue going. Strategies for partnering with caregivers to move forward after a difficult conversation will also be discussed. Participants will practice using these tools in commonly encountered, challenging caregiver-therapist scenarios.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify situations and behaviors that can put a conversation at risk.
- Demonstrate strategies to continue the conversation when someone shows they don’t feel safe
- List strategies to move forward with a caregiver following a difficult conversation.
This course includes:
-
Comprehensive Learning Guide
-
Conversation Planner Guide
