In this course we will discuss common injuries and conditions of the spine and hip as they relate to the young athlete. We will discuss diagnosis, prognosis, treatment progressions, and prevention strategies as well as when to refer to specialists. Attendees should leave the course with concrete tools and ideas to use in the clinical or home health setting and immediately feel more comfortable with this unique patient population.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe treatment progressions as they relate to young athletes with lumbar spondylolisis.
- Differentiate between hamstring strains and ischial tuberosity avulsion fractures.
- Identify at least 3 functional exercises to help increase core and hip strength in the young athlete.
- Identify 2 factors may be increasing strain on the lower back of a young athlete with lumbar back pain or spondylolisis.
