This session explores current research on Gestalt Language Processing, the purpose of echolalia, and reviews Marge Blanc’s Natural Language Acquisition framework through a clinical lens. 1. Participants will define both immediate and delayed echolalia as meaningful communication
  2. Participants will identify the stages of Natural Language Acquisition (Blanc 2012) and the unbiased research of its implementation.
  3. Participants will identify one language support strategy when working with children who use delayed echolalia.

Instructor

A pediatric speech therapist specializing in supporting autistic and neurodivergent children, she recognized a critical need for tailored learning tools that suit each child's individual learning style. This inspired her to develop First Phrases™, an innovative digital platform rooted in neurodiversity-affirming practices. Many of her clients lacked suitable learning aids, so she began creating her own tools, leading to a pioneering card deck supporting visual images, written phrases, and voice recordings.

First Phrases™ Digital Platform and Cards support all language learning styles and bring meaningful communication to children and families in their home language, now available in English and Spanish. They are MWBE and SBE certified.

In her practice at One-on-One Speech Therapy, she integrates these tools with holistic, neurodiversity-affirming practices. As a bilingual pediatric SLP fluent in Urdu, Hindi, and English, she also works with schools and clinics to support training in neurodiversity-affirming practices.

She has spoken at national conferences and universities, been honored as an innovator by ASHA, and received awards including the NBASLH Clinician of the Year-SLP Award.
