Sydney is a Speech Language Pathologist whose passion is working with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, children who are dyslexic, and those with literacy-related challenges. She also loves training fellow professionals in these areas.
The Listening SLP is Sydney’s private practice and social media brand. She shared with us that she has always had a love for learning, and stays actively involved with research related to her clinical areas of interest.
Sydney’s choice to be a pediatric provider was a personal one. In addition to having always loved working with kids, she shared:
“Having had a close family member who has benefited from intervention, I wanted to be a provider to give the level of support, care, and compassion that my family received.”
📚 Fun Fact: In 2023, Sydney co-authored a children’s book, A Day with Mom, which tells the story of a little girl who is excited to spend the day with her mom on a typical Saturday.
✨ One Wish for the Pediatric Therapy Field: “Therapists would work hard to understand their clients and honor their lived experiences as valid!”
🙌 Currently Excited About: Sydney has been invited to present at a few state conferences! She is looking forward to training more fellow professionals to help improve practice standards.
💬 Want People to Know About You: “That I am more than just a speech-language pathologist! I am a full well-rounded person who has had my struggles with health that shape the way I approach therapy and training!”
We, at Knowledge Is Now, were drawn to Sydney’s teaching around social media ethics and health literacy.
Sydney shared,
“My undergraduate degree is in public health. which fuels my fire for health literacy! Health literacy is the cornerstone that motivates people to take action when it comes to their health, including speech and language therapy.“
There are multiple health literacy-related tools and strategies therapists can utilize to support children and caregivers to benefit as fully as possible from the therapy process. Knowledge Is Now (KIN) is thrilled to partner with Sydney and give all health professionals access to her recorded webinar, Examining Health Literacy Considerations and Clinical Impact on Care for Allied Health Professionals. This course also meets the DEI requirement!

We asked Sydney how she came up with the idea for this type of course, which meets the Ethics requirement.
“I decided to develop a presentation about social media ethics after several conversations with colleagues about behaviors we noticed on social media (good and bad). Many therapists hop on social media to learn tips and information for others. Some choose to share information with the masses. But very few think about all of the ethical and even legal considerations that one should have before posting or commenting. I want to see our field grow and prosper, but I want us to do so wisely.”
